#NationalLipstickDay

For a long time, I shied away from wearing lipstick. Being a brown skin girl, a lot of shades did not look flattering on me. I used to think that maybe it was just meant for me to wear lip stick. When I discovered lip liners, it made it a little better, but I only stuck in the nude and neutral family. I still wasn’t out of my comfort zone enough to wear colored lipsticks. Today, I want to talk to you about a Black owned vegan and cruelty free cosmetic line, The Lip Bar.

I first became acquainted with The Lip Bar last year, after listening to the owner Melissa’s podcast interview. I fell more in love with her story, after hearing her speak at Summit 21. I went out and purchased the lipstick from my local Target. When I first moved back to Detroit, I wanted to go to the flagship store, but I just never found the time to go. I cannot wait until they open back, because the pictures don’t do it justice. Melissa, recently was on The Real, and Seeing her on the show motivated me to continue to push my brand. Melissa is an example that girls who look like me, can make it to be whatever they want to be. Melissa started out working on Wall Street, and was making lipstick in her kitchen. She even went on Shark Tank years ago, and was humiliated. She persevered, and now has a flag ship store in Downtown Detroit, and expanded her products from just lipsticks to foundations, eyeshadows, highlighters, and more. The Lip Bar's products make me feel fearless and powerful. They hav lipsticks for only $13, and has beauty for all shades. Today I want to share five lipsticks that every black girl needs to have.

First up, 'Chocolate Spritzer' is the perfect nude. This is such pretty color and could be used for a ombre or a monochromatic lip. I even loved how smooth it felt on my lips. The formula is creamy yet long wearing. This is my new go to nude. Perfect for work, or even date night. This nude would be pretty on light skin complexions and even chocolate girls.

Second, 'Merlot' is the perfect fall  color. Before today, I would have never worn a lip color like this. I'm so happy, I picked it out. This is the perfect burgundy/purple for brown girls. This color could even be used as a lip liner. If you're a risk taker with makeup, definitely get this. This will be so cute in the fall and winter. I love seeing other people with dark lips, I now have a color of my own. This color glides on the lips like butter!

Third, 'Cosmo' is the perfect red. It's so moisturizing and velvet on the lips. This for me, is a good everyday color. This could be worn to the office, and any other occasion. This is a traditional red, with a twist. Red lipstick on a woman is so powerful and sexy. It's not too bright, and not too dark, it's literally perfect. On top of that, the smell is delicious.

Fourth one, is one of my favorite shades. It's,'Curlfriend.' This is a liquid matte lipstick. It's matte, but still moisturizing. It's enriched with Shea butter, avocado oil and jojoba oil to soften the lips. It's the perfect pink for a minimalist girl. This shade can be worn honestly anywhere, to work, date, girls night, grocery store, the possibilities are endless. This is a muted pink for brown skins, that doesn't look chalky. This shade will be cute on all shades of brown women.

Last but not least, 'Drama Queen,' is another liquid matte lipstick. It's a purple shade, but different from Merlot. It's bold and luscious. It felt like lip balm, and made my lips look plumped. The pigment is so amazing for any skin tone. This color lasts so long on the lips. When I tried to take it off, I had to scrub my lips clean. This is my new go to for girls night out. This is the perfect vampire lip color for black girls.

I hope you found at least one color that you're willing to try. Definitely go check out, The Lip Bar, they're also sold in so many Target stores. I'm trying to be more conscious with how I shop. I love circulating the black dollar. Make sure you support black businesses the same way you support these white major corporations. Today is National lipstick day, go pick yourself up some lipsticks today! The Lip Bar is now giving away a free lipstick if you purchase a lipstick.
