Blogmas Day Three: Eating Clean During The Holidays

dymond lashay • Dec 03, 2020
As you already know, I started back working out with my trainer last month. On top of training four times a week, she also provides me with a meal plan. I used to be the queen of dieting. I would try different diets and they would never stick. I would get so frustrated. I started researching why diet fail and was learned so much. I had to change my approach. I had to train my mind to think about my new meal plan as a lifestyle change, rather than a diet to get skinny. If I approach it with the idea that it’s a lifestyle change, I will stick to it more consistently. I’ve also learned that sometimes, it’s okay to satisfy yourself the cravings.

The holiday season technically starts with Thanksgiving. Back on Thanksgiving, I allowed myself to go crazy. I was able to eat whatever I wanted and how much I wanted. The weeks leading up to it, I had worked so hard to be consistent. As a reward, I gave in. Getting back to your healthy eating after Thanksgiving can be kind of hard. You have to push yourself. One way I pushed myself was by giving myself another thing to look forward to. CHRISTMAS! During the holiday season, people make Christmas cookies, gingerbread houses, cupcakes, and so many other sweet treats. I had to look up some healthy alternatives to my favorite treats. Switching cookies to butterless popcorn, may seem difficult, but after a week of doing it, you adjust. By allowing myself to eat however on Christmas and Christmas Eve, I have something to look forward to. Now, during my workouts, when I’m in pain, I think about Christmas and how I’m going to have that sweet brownie that I’ve been wanting. It helps me push thru another set of squats.

Changing to healthier eating is a marathon, not a race. I cut out foods little by little. What I learned was going cold turkey can be difficult. Smart small by switching your drinks, you don't want to drink all your calories. I also started walking more, after my workouts, I love how being active makes me feel. I hate working out, but my body feels energized once it's done. Sticking to your healthy eating during the holiday season, will require you to train your mind to be stronger than your body. Your mind might be telling you your hungry, when in reality you're full. Take power of your mind this holiday season.
