Boss Lady Sleepover

Dymond Phillips • Jan 28, 2019
Over the weekend, Dior and I went to MsKierraP Boss Lady Sleepover. I had to work during the day, so we were a little late. I was excited and eager to see all of the girl bosses in attendance. The girls ranged from age seventeen and up to mid twenties. The purpose of the sleepover was to talk and network with one another. We did this through vision boards, sip and paints and some interesting games. (SIDEBAR: Of course I had Dior with me. If you didn't know, Dior is apart of the Dymond's Diary brand. She goes where I go.) The energy in the room was full of happiness and excitement. You could tell all the girls had great heads on their shoulders. The event gave each of us a push to crush our goals for 2019. There was food, snacks and refreshments provided throughout the night. Each girl didn't spend the night but they stayed as late as they could.

The event was put together by, MsKierraP. Who is Kierra Perry? She is a boss lady who is a graduating senior at Clark Atlanta University. She started her brand, MsKierraP, to help people across the world express their feelings. She creates clothing with bold statements that have deeper meanings. Her goal is to help every small black owned business, including her own, grow and become the most successful in the world. When asked how she plans on doing this, Kierra responded, "I work day in and day out to offer my marketing services to different entrepreneurs. We all must work together because we all must succeed. A lot of times we are thinking things, but are too afraid to say them. Why not wear it?"
There were about twelve girls that attended. Most girls came from Atlanta, but there were some from Savannah too. The lady bosses all had different crafts but came together so smoothly. What I loved about this was that Kierra, opened it up to girls who weren't yet entrepreneurs. Everybody got to share their stories and expertise. Amongst the girls there were lash and nail techs, web and graphic designers, makeup artists and clothing line owners. Each girl was special and unique, and with the help of Dior, I connected with each of them.

My takeaway from the event was that, there's room for multiple women to make it to the top. We are stronger together than apart. As black woman, it's harder for us to come together because we'd much rather tear the next woman down. That's the wrong way to go about business. Once you cheer for your peers, you'll have more success come to you. It may not be your season, but you must encourage others while they have theirs. Everybody has their own path designed for their life, what is for you nobody can take it away. The next time you see a girl boss winning cheer her on, your time is coming. Special thank you to MsKierraP, for having Dior and I. It was something very memorable, we look forward to connecting with you again in the future.
