Bronner Bros Homecoming Atlanta 2024 Show

dymond phillips • Feb 29, 2024

Last weekend was THE weekend of beauty in Atlanta, Georgia. Hairstylists, make up artist, barbers, estheticians, and other beauty creatives showed up from all around the world for the Bronner Brother International Beauty Show. This was the first show since the 2020 pandemic. The energy in the room was so pure. The people in the room were there with intention. Whether that intention was to show their work, sell a product, or learn; you could honestly feel the hunger and inspiration as soon as you step foot inside.

If you’ve never heard of the Bronner Bros International Beauty Show, where have you been? It’s a three day one night experience like no other. To call it just a beauty show, would undermine all that it encompasses. It’s the world’s largest professional trade show dedicated to multicultural beauty. This weekend is jam packed with education, networking, and entertainment. It’s a celebrity filled star-studded event that takes place in Atlanta twice a year. You can shop, eat, connect, and so much more at this experience. This was the 77th annual show, and was the first time, since Covid, that they were able to do it. This shows theme was Homecoming, and they did not disappoint. I left with so many goodies; some that I purchased, others that were gifted.

When you think about legacy and generational wealth, Bronner Bros is one of the best examples. The Bronner beauty Empire was started in 1947, when Nathaniel Bronner and his brother Arthur opened their first store, in Atlanta, with all their own beauty products. They even had their own Station Wagon, which was going from beauty salon to beauty salon, selling products. The first Bronner Brother Beauty Show took place in 1947, at the local YMCA with only 50 stylists. It began to grow over the years and even had guest speakers like Jackie Robinson, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and Dick Gregory. Now, they fill the Georgia World Congress center with over 10,000 people. It is to date the largest show of its kind. They have two main events, the barber and hair battle, and many battles in between. It’s a place where beauty professionals can be surrounded by like-minded people, and get inspired. There has been so many stylists, and professionals who have been discovered, and whose lives have been changed by attending the beauty show. Whether they competed in a competition, or made a connections with someone, many have been transformed after attending. The Bronner Brother empire is built on God, family, and business. Nathaniel had a vision for all that Bronner Brothers could be. Now, the second generation is running and operating Bronner Brothers. At the night time fashion and beauty show, President James Bronner, introduced his daughter on stage for the prayer to open the night. After the prayer, he shared that she is carrying the fourth generation, because she’s expecting. For over 77 years, Bronner brothers has been and remains family owned. There isn’t a lot of black businesses that can do this. The spirit of excellence and vision is passed down with each generation. I’m excited to see what the next generation does in the future.

I first started attending the Bronner Brother show, back when I was in college, at Clark Atlanta, in 2018. I had just launched Dymonds Diary, and was approved to be press. I’m not a beauty professional, but I love and respect the beauty industry so much. It’s a billion dollar industry with so many creatives, who have a work ethic like no other. The first time I attended, I was blown away. It’s so much love in the exhibit, I can’t even explain it. I have made it my business to attend the show each year since. I was devastated when they stopped doing it because of Covid. So many times, stylist, and other beauty technicians spend so much of their energy, making other people beautiful, they don’t have a lot of spaces where they are the priority; that’s why so many of them make it to the show. Whether you’ve been in the game, 20 years, or are fresh out of cosmetology school, this is a place that you need to be. The connections, inspiration, and creativity that you get by being in the room is unmatched. I left feeling so motivated and inspired. Many professionals use it as a time to stock up on beauty essentials from the vendors. Other people, use this time to pass out flyers and samples of their products. There were over 20 workshops, and small classes for people to learn in as well. All of your favorite vendors were in attendance, plus new ones. It was over 100 vendor booths. When you walk the floor, you get to see upcoming trends in the hair and beauty, space, talk to people who have been in the game for years, and bump into your favorite celebrities. This year, I got to see and speak with Yandy, Judy, Derrick J, Shekinah, and many more. The top beauty influencers were even there, and celebrity stylist.

One thing that the Bronner Brother beauty show is known for, is the night time Sunday fashion show. They feature designers from all over the world, and even have a hair and barber portion. I was honestly blown away by all of the styles I got to see. The show even included some entertainment and musical performances. They gave out some awards during the show as well. The fashion show, is always one of my favorite parts, because I just love seeing the different styles that the designers create. I also love seeing the kids portion where they have children modeling different looks.

Whether you are a beautician, barber, esthetician, fashion designer, or any other beauty creative, you need to make the Bronner Brother Show part of your yearly tradition. Before Covid, they would have a show in the winter, and summer; typically, the winter show was in February, and the summer show was in August. I hope now post Covid, they bring back the August show. For updates on what’s to come check out BronnerBros.com. That’s also where you can sign up to be a vendor, I suggest doing that early. You can even inquire about participating in one of the many competitions that they have. As soon as I find out what’s to come, I will be sure to keep you posted.
