Day Five Of The 5th Annual Fast & Detox: Your Why

Everything that we do should have a purpose. I go to work every day, to get money, and to invest into my business, or to save for the future plans. It’s time to get back to the why. When you lose track of why you do things, you lose your spunk. Not only do you lose your spunk, but you lose your momentum. It’s so much going on throughout the day, it can be easy to become mundane with day to day life. Those are the times that I say get back to the why. You are on this earth for a reason. God breathed the breath of life into you today for a purpose. If you don’t know your life purpose that’s fine, but it should always be a why for what you do. Why do you work where you work? Why do you eat what you eat? Why do you go to the places you go? Why do you talk to the people you talk to? If the day-to-day things, don’t align with the plans you have for the year, why do you do it.

You see, I had to write down your long-term goals, because everything that you do today should be getting you closer to that. I look at my goals every day. I wanna make sure I’m not just doing things just because, and I’m being intentional about the life I’m living. It doesn’t have to be deep, but it has to be deliberate. I have a yearly goal of reading 10 books, that’s why I read every single day. Above that, I want to make reading a habit that I do without thinking. Every single thing you do, should have a why attached. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” God is very intentional about the things that he does. You are not here for no reason, you have an assignment here on earth.

What was there one spoke about how the church had a mission statement, and they got me thinking. Before I started my business, I came up with a mission statement for it. When I start a family, we will have a family mission statement. What is a mission statement exactly? A mission statement is a brief description of a company's fundamental purpose. Essentially, it answers the question,'Why does the company exist?" This is your why. This doesn't only apply to businesses, you can have a mission statement for your life. Why are you here? If you don't have a why, you will eventually crumble in business or even life. No business can exist without a strong mission statement because it's audience/customers will be confused. I don't know about you, but once I'm confused about a company, I won't make a purchase. Let's be real, sometimes you will feel unmotivated. When you lack motivation, your why will keep you going. When things get tough and you don't want to do the hard work, the reason why you started should push you to do it any way. It's ok to add more to your mission statement as you grow but you need to have one that will remain true. Once again, not only for business should you have a mission statement, you should one for your life. Nobody is just here for no reason. Everybody has a purpose, so what is yours? It's ok if you don't know, pray and connect with God he will show you why you're here.

On top of a mission statement, you need to have brand values and personal values. Your values are a list of ways your brand promises to act for as long as you serve your chosen marketplace. That’s a promise you can’t afford to get wrong. It's a promise to your buyers. It's your non-negotiables. Without a brand values, you won't differentiate your company from your competitors. Everybody has things that they intend to do, your values are just that. Your values need to be timeless, memorable, meaningful, clear and defined, actionable, and unique. Take some time out to develop your personal and brand values. Really sit and think about it. Remember, your values don’t mean much if they’re not constantly represented by the things you do and say daily. Let’s get into today’s activity. It’s time to get back to the why. Today I want you to come up with a mission statement for your life. A personal mission statement defines who you are as a person, and identifies your purpose. It can be however long or short you want it to be. On top of that, I want you to come up with five personal values. Personal values are things that are important to us, the characteristics and behaviors that motivate us and guide our decisions. Once you come up with this two things, I want you to right it somewhere visible and hang it a place you go daily. Maybe put it in sticky notes and put them in your mirror or closet. Getting back to your why will help push you during the times motivation fades.
