Day One: Back To School Fast & Detox

Dymond Phillips • Aug 10, 2018
Can you believe we are already twenty four hours into our fast and detox. How are you feeling? Today I wanted to come check with you and make sure you actually are taking this seriously. First thing is make sure you are not short changing God. Write down the things that you decided to give up and actually analyze them if it's not things you do multiple times a day try to switch it for something else. Also with this being the first day I want to make sure you are not just giving up things. The point is to use the time you usually spend doing those things to pray and glorify God.

I'll be honest my first day of the fast was actually pretty long and draining. I spent thirteen hours between two airports just to cancel my trip and fly back home. I even had to purchase an additional flight which still was a epic fail. After a day like that I had to sit down and just talk to God. Do you ever get to a point where life is just hitting you so hard it's so many things going left at one moment that you just feel like it's no way things will ever be ok? When things like this happen we tend to run to our friends, significant others or even social media to vent. YOU CAN NOT RUN TO PEOPLE OR SOCIAL MEDIA TO VENT. You have a source that right there ready and willing to listen and help but all you have to do is reach out, but yet why don't you? God said he would never fail you. You know he wouldn't lead you wrong. In this world it's so much noise going on that you need to strengthen your relationship with God. Here's my challenge for you today to make an effort to get closer to God. By removing your favorite tings from your life, I know you have a lot of time on your hands. Try these implementing these six tips to fill in your day.

1. Watch Sermons Online. I love to watch different Youtuber's all day but during this fast I'm trying to watch more sermons from different pastors all over. Try watching at least one-two sermons today about anything you want. Make sure you take notes so that you can reference them when needed.

2. Switch Up Your Music. Now I understand it may be hard to go cold turkey. Believe me I get it, Nicki Minaj just released her fourth studio album, Queen, earlier today and I had to listen. But I had to feed my spirit first. Start your day with some gospel uplifting music and at least three times out the day play a song or two. You will be able to tell the difference in your day, just by adding more positive music.

3. Get A Daily Devotional. You can get a devotional from Target, Walmart, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, literally anywhere books are sold
. What a devotional is, is publication which provides a specific spiritual reading for each day. Some of my favorite devotionals for women include; Jesus Calling, God Hears Her : 365 Devotions for Women by Women, and Beautiful Word Devotional : Bringing the Goodness of Scripture to Life in Your Heart. Theres so many devotionals in the world that you just have to find one that fits best with you. I'll be going into more details on the importance of these later in the fast, but they're great tools to take your spiritual calling to the next level.

4. Start A Book
I'd love it if you'd start a Christian based book, but if you just want to read a positive motivational book. Make sure the book interest you and is something that'll be a beneficial to your life. Try to go to the Christian book section, you can find some of the same books but they have a spiritual twist on them. I'm currently reading, Becoming A Woman Of Purpose by Cynthia Heald.
5. Pray!!!! Prayer is one the largest tools to increase your communication with God. It's allows you to cast your cares to the Lord. It's a great way to express how you're feelings and get it off your chest. It's the best way to make your requests known. It lifts up yourself and others by thanking God for all he's done to you. Whatever you want to do you can thru prayer. You can pray at work, school, the grocery store, literally anywhere. You can pray when you happy, sad, stressed, frustrated, when your feeling any emotions. Tell him anything that's on your heart. Take the time to acknowledge that he is who he is. Try to start a prayer journal and you can write letters to God if it's hard for you to just pray out loud.

6. Read The Bible. I know it can be challenging understanding each scripture but it's so many outlets online that break down the Bible. I know a physical bible is not cheap but if you have a smartphone you can download the Bible app for free and they actually send out daily verses. Try to read at least a scripture a day and implement it to your day-to-day life. If it's difficult for you to understand try reading it first in the King James version then reading it in the New International version and so forth. Take it piece by piece, you want to read it in a way that you can really understand it.

I know everybody is not religious if you are not and you're still participating in the detox I want to thank you. Life detoxing is so important especially with all the foolishness going on in the world. You have to know how to silence out everything and clear your mind of anything not benefiting you. The activity I want to give you is to write a letter to your ten year old self. Knowing all you know now I think this will be great because you can give yourself advice that you may still need today. The trick is to be real with yourself! Make sure you are using the word you. After you write the letter analyze if this is advice that you've implemented into your life already, if not it's not too late to start.

For me, this letter took a while to write and it helped me see a lot. By you writing this letter I hope that it'll help you forgive yourself and others for the things you've experienced. It'll also gain clarity of the areas of your life that may still be affecting you. This letter will help you increase your happiness by seeing how far you've came and will strengthen your self esteem and give you peace. Lastly this can be knowledge you give someone around you. A lot of people go thru the same things and are looking for help and inspiration from others.

I hope you get a lot from these activities. We are only one day in and I already feel a change coming. Take this fast and detox seriously and watch how the outcome. Until tomorrow.....
