Day One Of End Of Summer Fast & Detox

dymond phillips • Aug 26, 2019
Hey hey, how are you? Day one is almost over, which means you've survived the hardest day. Today for the fast I want to share with you an I nsert from my devotional. It reads:

WHEN YOU FAST
It was the WHEN that got us. Jesus did not say if you pray, but when you pray; or if you give, but when you give. And Jesus did not say if you fast, but when you fast. These statements are found in one of the most well-loved chapters of the New Testament, Matthew 6, a portion of Jesus' Sermon on the Mount. Much of Christ's most important teachings on living are contained in the three chapters that record that sermon.
Jesus fasted. So did Moses, Hannah, David, Esther, and the Jews. The act of removing food from your mouth, a screen from your eyes, or an activity that consumes your time to get alone with your Savior in a sacrificial fashion will cause you to enter into a new and unique presence with God. Fasting helps us focus, humble ourselves, listen for God to reveal sin, break strongholds, and send healing. It can heighten our worship and increase our intimacy with the Lord. And it makes us hungry—not for food or things...but for more of Jesus.
Are you fully satisfied—completely surrendered—or do you sense a stirring in your heart for more? Fasting and prayer can help you hear God's will and bring you into the destiny he created you for.

This was the perfect thing to read for day one, because it tells me about why we fast. I will be honest and say today was hard for me. It's 7pm and I haven't eaten anything all day, so I'm starving. Also the VMAs are coming on later and guess who won't be watching...me! To top it all off, I went to two coffee shops earlier that were both disgusting compared to Starbucks, with horrible wifi. But, even with all the struggles happening today, I am focused on God. When I think about everything he does for me daily, I refuse to complain about my fleshes desires. I took the day to look at my life, the people in it, things I've overcame, my failures, the highs and lows, and one thing I can say is I'm blessed. That's something I want you to do. Step outside yourself and analyze where you are now. Understand that blessings and favor come with GRATITUDE. For example, I've been wanting to move for the longest, but I haven't been truly grateful for the place I have now. If I can't be thankful for where I am now, how can I expect God to bless me with more. You have to learn how to look at the glass half full, rather than half empty. Write a list of at least ten things you're grateful for RIGHT NOW. They can be as big or small as you want. Keep this list somewhere you can see daily and during this fast, add three things every morning. Watch how your day changes when you start with thankfulness.
For those of you who are detoxing as well, today is the day to start with your thoughts. You are in control of what goes thru your mind. Today I want you to sit still for six minutes and write down ten affirmations to yourself. This list can include things you love about yourself, or things you love about your life. We live in a cruel world, this exercise is essential so that you remain kind to yourself. If nobody else is nice to me, I will be. When you get clear on what you love about yourself and life, you'll focus on those rather than the negative thoughts. Having a positive mindset is key to having a positive life. It all starts with your mind. Write down the ten thoughts in a place you have easy access to. Remember, you can change your life with positive thinking

Day one down, six more to go! Don't cheat yourself, remain disciplined.
