Get Clear On What You Want

Goals are very important, setting and achieving them. More important than just having goals, is writing down goals. So many times we have goals that we want to reach, yet we don’t write them down. We have so many thoughts throughout the day, and it’s easy to lose focus of what a goal is. Goals help me stay on track. I do extend grace when a goal is not achieved at the time I wanted it to be. Once you write down your goals, whether that be written or digital, then you must come up with a action plan to achieve them. Everybody talks about having goals, but nobody discusses how to reach a goal. When writing down goals, it is so crucial to be specific with what it is you want. Rather than saying I want more money, decide how much more money you want. Vague goals get vague results. Attach a specific number, and a date on the goal. How can you achieve something without it being a goal attached. Think about it, in basketball the goal is to put the ball in the basket. If they didn’t have a goal, how would they play? You have to be specific, so that way you can track your progress.

When writing down goals, first you must think about long term. What do you want in the next 1-5 years. Once you determine the long term goals, you have to figure out what the short term goals are. What do you want in the next 6 months to a year? What goals can you put in place to get closer to the long term goals. You have to be very clear. Once you write down these long and short term goals, you can start to track your progress. I even make monthly and daily goals. I make monthly goals for my personal life and business. On the first of every month, I sit and analyze my progress. I write down everything, that way I can see where I made it or missed the mark.

After you write down your goals, (short, long, monthly, weekly, daily, etc) you must come up with a detailed plan on how you’ll make them happen. For example, the bigger goal is reaching 10k on Instagram. For that to happen, I'll need 300 more followers on this month. In order to make that happen, I will post new content everyday and comment on at least 10 different posts a day. That is a action plan. It’s daily habits that I will do, in order to achieve the long and short term goal. Each goal you have in place needs to have this attached. It can be tedious to do, but it makes a difference. Writing a action plan, takes a little work, but helps the dream become a reality. I sit down and write out action plans to each goals, because it helps me create new habits. On top of that, it helps the goal not look too hard to reach.

Goal setting is key to be successful. If you don’t set goals, how will you win? Stop being so vague with your goals. Once I started being intentional with everything, I started to see growth. Now, everything I do for my business, has a goal. Whenever I post a picture on social media, it has a goal. Setting goals help me stay on track. It’s so easy to get distracted. Sometimes, things happen and slow me down from my goals. When life happens, adjust the action plan, don’t change the goal! If it’s hard for you to remain disciplined, find a purpose partner to help you stay on track. My mom and I are starting to have strategy sessions. In those sessions I share what I want for work, business and my personal life. Throughout the month, she checks in on me. Having an accountability partner, helps me do the things I said I wanted to do. Try finding one within your friends or family you trust. Carve out some time to sit and write out your goals and action plans. This time should be uninterrupted, you need to focus on what you want. Check in on those goals weekly or monthly to see your progress.
