Speak What You Want

Dymond Phillips • Jun 12, 2018
I always talk about the power of your tongue and how you speak things into existence. That has been a huge part of my success in life. One thing that I am blessed to have is my newest opportunity. I was blessed to have the opportunity to move to Miami for a PAID internship with one of my favorite stores, Nordstrom. So many people wondered why Miami? Well let me tell you. Back during my freshmen year of college I went to Miami for my first Spring Break and I fell involve. No I didn't fall in love with he partying and beach I fell involve with the city itself, the art, the people the culture. Florida is just a state I've grew to love over the years because of its beauty. I love the palm trees, the rain and just the atmosphere. Freshmen year when everybody said where do you want to move after graduation, my answer was always LA and Miami. (Fun fact: I want to move to LA for a year, Miami for a year and move back to my state NY but to the city to raise my family.) Anywho I came to Miami in January for my best friend Toria birthday and as we were walking in the art district in Target, I said I'm moving here this summer.

At that moment, I didn't know how or why but I knew that's what I wanted find a path together me here. When I got back to Atlanta I started filling out internship applications, I was doing them EVERYDAY. I applied to places in Miami, and LA. I first had a response mid February about coming to a interview, in March. I IMMEDIATELY started looking at flights and making arrangements because I was willing to sacrifice and go all in. I fly in during my spring break went to the interview and waiting for the call. A few weeks later they called me asking me offering me the position. I had a few oppprtunties to go to LA and NYC but they were unpaid and the companies weren't as large as Nordstrom.
I'm telling you this story just to say, if it's anything you truly want in life you have to GO HARD. A had someone tell me I would hate it because I was coming to Miami alone. They were wrong, I absolutely love it! Also, I went to ATL alone so I was prepared. You have to be willing to go outside the box. Speak the things you want to happen OUT LOUD. On top of that, do the work to get you what you want. God will meet you once you do the work. Faith with no work equals FAILURE. Now if I would have kept saying, I'm moving to Miami over and over without actually applying for internships or housing I wouldn't have gotten here. I've been here a little over a week I work my internship during the day then go to Chilis and work nights it's a great opportunity for me to actually see how it is living here before I move full time.

How bad do you want the things you say you want in life. MAKE IT HAPPEN!
