Spring Cleaning: PURGE YOUR CLOSET

OUT WITH THE OLD & IN WITH THE NEW

We are five days into April. Which means we are officially in the second quarter and my favorite season, Spring! I love the spring time for so many reasons. First and foremost, I'm an Aries and my birthday is April 9th, but I'm celebrating all month long. Also, Spring is so refreshing to me; more sunlight, longer days, and the weather isn't too hot or cold. Spring to me, represents new beginnings. Whatever happened in the first quarter is over, it's a new chapter and time to get back activated. Go back to the goals you set for 2021, it's not too late to refocus.

I know you've heard the term, Spring Cleaning. It's a tradition that allows us to freshen up our homes and get a head start on the often hectic seasons of spring and summer. People take some time to clean out their homes, offices, cars and so much more. I’m a hoarder, so it’s hard to me to let go of things. I have stuff in my closet from  middle school. Whenever it’s time for me get rid of things, I always make up excuses as to why I should keep them. NOT ANYMORE! I had been putting off cleaning my closet, car and even desk for months. I always tidy up, but it was time for a deep clean.

I made it a priority to take spring cleaning seriously. I was going to PURGE my closet, no matter what. Last Saturday, I went thru all my clothes. If I hadn’t worn it within the last two years, I threw it away. That included shirts that had holes, my favorite denim jacket I over wore, and so much more. I always say I have nothing to wear, but when I buy new things, I have nowhere to put them. In order to get a new wardrobe, I had to purge my old wardrobe. I did the same with my shoes. It was so hard for me to let go, but I did it anyway. After I finished my closet, I moved on to my desk drawers. They had been junky since I first got them. I went to the container store and picked up some organizers to get things in order. After a few hours, I got things to look how I wanted. Everything had a home. Lastly, I moved on to my car, it's always junky. I took a garbage bag and purged my trunk. I had shoes, broken umbrellas and so much more stuffed into it. Then, I took my car to a car wash, for a full detail. I will never allow my car to get that dirty again.

As I was spring cleaning my spaces, I started to think about how I can deep clean other areas of my life. This year, I’m really trying to transform my life from the inside out. I want to be more like the woman of my dreams. So many times, we hold on to things that no longer serve us, including: relationships, friendships, situations, habits, and more. Sometimes, holding on is causing more damage than just letting go. We say, we want this new life with new things, but we have a problem letting go of old things. If you’re a hoarder like me, you may be holding on to dead things. That could be a friend who only calls you to gossip, or a habit of sleeping in too late. Only you know the dead things in your life, that are stopping you from moving forward.

Take some time to purge all areas of your life. Purge your phone and socials, if you need to. Purge your closet and diet if you need to. Think about the woman or man you want to be, compared to who you are now. What things, do you need to get rid of, to get you closer to becoming that person? For me, I wanted to change my closet completely, but didn’t have the space. I had to make room for the things I want. I wanted to be more healthy and fit, but I had to let go of my habit of sleeping in and missing my workouts. It’s time to take inventory of your life. Spring is the perfect time to refresh and reset. It’s time to clear space for your blessings. Carve out some time to spring clean all areas of your life!
