Ugh Finals

dymond phillips • May 09, 2017
It’s that time we all hate, FINALS WEEK. The time to try to study all the material we’ve learned in the course of a semester. Some of y'all may cram others may start studying months in advance. Personally, I’m somewhere in the middle. I don’t exactly start studying early but I don't cram the night before. WHAT’S THE POINT? If I’ve maintained an A or B they entire semester, why take it. Some of us worry so much and over study and end up getting a horrible grade on the final which causes our over all grade to drop tremendously. They want us to study for finals, pack to move out of the dorm, and have a social life with the friends we won’t see for months. Let’s be real most of the GOOD parties happen during midterm week or finals week. It’s many ways to study for finals. Now more than ever, you need good time management skills. Balancing time between studying moving and maybe a job can be hard. Here’s some tips I use during finals week:
Pack in the morning little by little (START EARLY): If you are in a dorm start packing early don’t wait until it’s two days before move-out day.
Don’t study in cluster or where you're too comfortable. Personally I enjoy going to Starbucks mid-day around 6pm not too early not too late. I used to study in my room/bed, but I find myself getting more tired and distracted.
Try to eat a little healthier especially during this time: Your body is already stressed, and tired try to eat more foods that give you energy. It’s harder to eat healthier but I promise you you’ll feel better in the end!!!
Know your grade going into final: This is super important because you have to know how much you need to study. If you have a C/D you need to put forth ways more energy than if you have an A. If you have an A, majority of the time, you know a lot of the material and don’t need to over study material that you know.
Try a study group: I just recently began doing this. Normally I always study alone, but I’ve came to realize studying with your peers with higher grades is such a help. They can explain in different ways than a teacher could. They also can give you tips on how to memorize things.
PRAY PRAY PRAY & PRAY some more: This is the most important #1 thing for finals week, school & even life in general. PRAYER, and speaking things into existence. I do not care what religion you are, prayer is power. I pray during finals week more than normal. Pray for peace, pray for favor with your professors, pray for the knowledge, pray for insight, just pray. On top of that remain positive. There is power in your tongue so please speak positivity into your life during this time. Don’t say things like “It’s over” or “it is what is I failed anyway.” Never get defeated no matter what happened the whole semester. You got this.
