Refocus Yourself

What happened to everything you said you wanted in 2020?

Happy Monday! I can't believe we're already at the end of February. It's so funny how January seems to drag, but once it's over, the year flies by. Today is 2/24/20. It's a sad day, because this morning was the Home Going service of the great Kobe Bryant and his daughter, Gigi. It's such a tragic story that is hard to process. Life is so precious, and in the blink of an eye it can end or change. I send prayers and my condolences to all the people affected from the helicopter crash. Whenever sudden deaths like this happen, I tend to reflect on my life and purpose. One thing that stood out to me about Kobe, was his drive and work ethic. He had a mamba mindset that I aspire to work towards. With it being a new year and decade, what better time than now to really go after everything you want?

Back in 2019, at the end of the year, everybody had so much to say about what they wanted for the new decade. Now that it’s here, that beginning of the year momentum is slowing down and for some people it has even come to a complete stop. It’s only February and so many people are discouraged and have given up on their goals.  "Approximately 80 percent of people who make New Year's resolutions have dropped them by the second week of February."  We're currently in week four of February, do you fall into that statistic? Unfortunately, I did I felt myself falling into a place of discouragement and not having a spark. I was living my life just to live, and not working towards any goals. It’s so easy to fall off track but you have to get back focused. I’ve already written a post on how I get back on track, but sometimes it’s not as easy as self-care. Sometimes you need people to pull your coat tail and who push you to be the best version of yourself. I’m happy that I have that in my life and I hope I can be that in yours. So let’s get back focused together those New Year’s goals and dreams are not going to chase themselves. Find habits that will help you get back focused, for me it’s logging off Instagram and really spending time by myself. For me, I have to incorporate productive activities throughout the day to help me get focused.

Go revisit that list of goals you made for 2020 and everything that you said you wanted. Understand that it's ok if somethings have changed. It’s even ok if you honestly don’t know what you want for your year. But I'm here to tell you that looking for your purpose on Instagram is not it. I recently uploaded a picture with the caption, ”Name a successful woman who got to where she is by scrolling on Instagram depressing herself with other people’s lives?” That is something I have to tell myself in order to stay in my own lane. This week I want you to write a list of short-term goals and long-term goals. Short term goals are things that you want in the next 3-12 months. Long-term goals are things that you want in the next 2-5 years. Really think about where you see yourself in 2025. 2020 is such an amazing year! You have to have 2020 vision to make it amazing. Let’s get real clear on our goals and dreams this year. The only way to make 2020 your year, is if you go after everything that you want. Understand that tomorrow is not promised. Your time here on this earth is limited, you never know when God is going to call you home. In less than two months, if 2020 taught you anything it’s that you should value life, don’t hold grudges, and work every single day to accomplish your goals right now!

Together we can get back on track. Re-set, re-adjust, re-start and/or re-focus as many times as you need to just keep going!
