20 Lessons I Learned In 2020

Before 2021, Make Sure You Reflect On 2020

2020 has been a year. It was unlike any other year and SO DIFFERENT than I expected it to be. I had elaborate plans for 2020 and many of them didn’t happen. We lost a lot of people this year. Many celebrities and icons lost their lives some due to Covid and others were for other reasons. 2020 was also a year to really be happy with what and who you have. It was a year for self work. I got to know myself a lot this year and I loved it. Thru all the craziness, 2020 was still a great year. Make sure you celebrate the wins you had in 2020, no matter how big or small. As we approach 2021, I had to reflect on 2020. I learned so many lessons that will stick with me forever. I wanted to share some with you:

1. Anybody Can Have Money But Can You Keep It
I touched more money in 2020 than ever, but it was harder to keep. Money comes and goes. The people who have real money invest and save it.

2. No Matter How Much Of An Introvert You Are, You Still Need Human Encounter
I've always loved my alone time. I'm the only child, so I really enjoy my own company. This year taught me, I still need people. When we don't have human encounter, it can cause you to lonely and crazy. It's in our nature to need others.

3. Nothing Is Forever
At the start of 2020, I thought I had it all mapped out. I lost my job this year. That was a job I thought I'd have for at least two years. Our sense of normal was stripped away. Things are temporary, you must enjoy them while they last.

4. Peace Is Better Than Happiness
Things can make you happy. It's an emotion that comes and goes. Peace comes from within and lasts thru the storms. It's harder to get peace, but once you do, you're golden.

5. Self Reflection Is Necessary For Growth
You're human and always evolving. The you from 2019 is different than 2020. Get to know who you are in every chapter of life. What areas are you lacking in and need to improve?

6. Having Integrity Will Get You Further In Life
What do you do when no one is watching? It's important. Be a person of substance.

7. Self Discipline Is Essential To Have Anything
Can you do what you said you're going to do? Are you focused and doing the work? When motivation fades, this will get you to do the work.

8. Friends Are Important, Cherish The Ones You Have
In 2021, I have to be a better friend. I have some amazing friends and they really are always there for me. When I couldn't see my friends like I wanted, I realized how important they were.

9. Everything Happens For A Reason, You Might Not Understand In The Moment But It Will All Play Out
This sums up 2020. In all the bad breaded some greatness. Trust and have faith in God.

10. Life Is Really Not A Race, It’s A Marathon
Nipsey said it best. Just because things don't happen when you want doesn't mean they won't happen. Focus on the journey, not the end.

11. The Reason Why You’re Doing Something Is So Important And Will Keep You Going
When you aren't getting the results right away, focus on why you started doing it in the first place. Focus on the why, it's most important.

12. The Answer To Every Problem Is Not More Money
Money is important, but it's not everything. Just because you have more money, doesn't mean life will be perfect. More money more problems.

13. Spending Time With Family And Loved Ones Is So Important, You’re Not Too Busy
I don't know how I would've survived quarantine without my family. I was away for four years and forgot how much I need them. The laughs are everything.

14. Stop Waiting Until You Get To Where You Want To Be To Be Happy. Find Happiness In Where You Are
Material things and fancy vacations can't be the only thing that make you happy. Learn to enjoy the simple things.

15. It’s Ok To Stop And Be Still To Smell The Roses
I learned how much I love sitting in my backyard and just taking everything in. I'm usually always focused on the next thing. Stop and celebrate this moment right now.

16. Learn To Use What You Already Have
You don't have to have all the best and newest gear to start. Whatever you think you need to start is false. Use what you have in front of you. Be creative.

17. Accept What Is And Let Go Of What Was
I'm a hoarder. 2020 taught me to let go of what was. Stop holding on the dead weight and baggage. See what you have without mourning what you lost. Release. Sometimes holding on is harder and stopping you from what's ahead.

18. Embrace Change And Uncertainty Because It’s Inevitable
Things will evolve. Hating change won't stop it from happening, it'll actually old you back. understand that life is about growing and evolving. Change will come and I'll embrace it.

19. Sometimes It’s Not Them, It’s Me. I’m The Problem, Take Ownership
Stop blaming everybody else. What did I do in the situation. How did I react? What was my role? How can I be better in the next situation.

20. Life Is So Precious And Short, Make The Most Of Your Time Here On Earth. Don’t Wait, Do It Now.
So many unexpected deaths this year. You don't know when your time will come. Make the best of where you are now. Live life every single day. If you were to die today, would you be fulfilled. The movie, 'Soul' really helped me realize this.
