7 Tips To Overcome Post Holiday Fatigue

The holidays are officially over. I can't believe we're six days into the New Year already. On Monday, I got back  from my four day vacation in Houston. While I was there, I completely detached. I wasn't worried about posting on my social media or even my blog. I allowed myself to be completely in the moment. When I got back, I was exhausted, but the good kind. I had such a good time away. I wanted to allow myself a day to just recuperate and get ready. At first, I felt bad about giving myself the FIRST Monday of the year off, but after a while, I got over it. Tuesday, I slept in a little, but I pulled it together. Today, I got up at 5:30am, worked out, responded to emails and planned this weeks content. I am back and ready to conquer all 2021 has in store.

Getting back to work was very hard. I felt the fatigue from the holidays, both Christmas and New Year's Eve. All I wanted to do was lay in my bed and watch Netflix. I kept talking myself out of getting up and doing any work. After weeks of celebrating and being with loved ones, it's time to get back to the normal routine. After days of dragging my feet, I finally mustered up the strength to get back to it. Here's how I did it. (These aren't in any particular order)

1. Tidy Up
My desk was covered in clothes and pillows, I couldn't see the tabletop to get anything done. I was overwhelmed just by seeing my work station so junky.  I took some time to really clean and organize my work space. Starting with a clean slate can help your mind focus on the tasks you have planned.

2. Write A Detailed Plan
Who wants to wake up and not know what to do? In my detailed plan, I shared steps to reach the goals I had set in place. These goals weren't all huge, some were as small as working out for 30 minutes. Set some goals and some action steps to get you there. It helped me to write a daily to do list, so I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

3. Share Your Goals With Someone You Trust (Surround Yourself With Productive People)
My mom is my purpose partner who holds me accountable. After two days of me being home and slacking off she came to me. She said, "Still not back to work after the holidays, huh?" That small statement kicked some fire in my behind, because she knows what I want in life and sleeping all day won't get me there. Having someone to hold you accountable only is annoying when you're not doing the things you need to do. Also, all of my friends are super productive. When I get on social media, and see them working, even if we aren't in the same field, it motivates me to get to work.

4. Watch Videos Of What You Want
Let me explain. On Tuesday, I felt so sluggish and didn't want to get out of bed. While I was laying there, I started watching Youtube videos of people doing apartment tours. If you don't know, I want a high rise 3 bedroom condo in a major city, with floor to ceiling windows. After watching two of these videos, I jumped up to get showered and headed to my desk. I know what I want and I'm willing to do the work necessary to get me there. Seeing it, pushed me to get up and get working so it can become my reality.

5. Put Some Clothes On
I love loungewear and being in my pjs all day, but it's something about when I get dressed that helps me be productive. Once I put on real clothes, I started to get things done. It's really true, dressing for success is key. When you look good, you feel good. I read an article about a man who dressed in a lab coat throughout medical school, and it helped him stay focused. Dress like you're where you want to be, and watch your work follow.

6. Plan Something To Look Forward To
I'm obsessed with traveling. I started planning my next trip and it gave me something to look forward to. If you can't do a trip, plan something you love whether it's a spa day, a party, visiting family, or just having some me-time. This will give your brain something positive to focus on and can help overcome depression and post-holiday lethargy.

7. Meditate
Listen to your inner thoughts and focus on your breathing. Shut out the world, just for five minutes and you'll get a boost of energy. Go for a walk if you can, being outdoors refuels me. Meditating is a great way to charge your focus and gain creativity or clarity.

I hope those seven tips help you get back to work on the dreams you want to make a reality. If you feel yourself sluggish, extend some grace, you're not the only one feeling this way. Many people feel post holiday fatigue.  Don't feel like a failure, push thru it. Make sure you speak life and positive affirmations daily. YOU GOT THIS!

Happy New Year, 2021 will be amazing.
