I know I said we’re getting out of wearing black, and we are. But let’s be real, some days you just want something easy, flattering, and already put together without overthinking it. That’s exactly why I keep a black bodysuit in rotation.

Whether it’s short sleeve, sleeveless, or long sleeve, this is a staple you can wear year round. Even with spring officially here, this is one of those pieces you will absolutely get your money’s worth out of.

Today, I wanted to share five simple ways to style a black bodysuit. It’s one of those pieces you can build a simple look around, or elevate into something more put together. Because it’s black, it works as the perfect neutral base for any color you want to add. And let’s be honest, black is always flattering.

My go to black bodysuit for spring and summer is a halter style from Zara. I literally repurchase two every year because it’s that good. Even when I’m just lounging around the house, I’ll throw it on with sweatpants for a relaxed look. On days I don’t feel like getting dressed, it’s perfect with jeans and sneakers, or even a simple slide.

All five of these outfits are easy, and you probably already have most (if not all) of these pieces in your closet. These looks can take you from errands, to church, to work, or even lunch with your girls. And the best part? This doesn’t only apply to black bodysuits, if you have a colored one, you can swap it in just as easily.

We’re still minimizing how much black we wear, but this is a great way to incorporate color while keeping a neutral base. These are in no particular order:

Printed Trousers & Trench Coat

This look is perfect for a spring day in the office. I love a good ankle length trouser paired with a loafer or ballet flat. These checkered pants work so well with a solid bodysuit, it balances everything out.

Whenever I’m wearing anything patterned, I like to keep my top simple. A bodysuit like this does exactly that and still gives you a clean base to build on. Add a lightweight trench coat, and you instantly have a polished, spring ready look.

Denim Distressed Jeans

I mentioned this look briefly earlier, but I love a good denim and bodysuit moment. In the spring and summer, I’m reaching for distressed wide leg jeans, they’re comfortable but still look put together.

Wide leg jeans have been my go to for the past few years because of how versatile they are. On cooler days, I’ll add a long cardigan or lightweight sweater for a little extra something.

This is perfect for a solo movie day or running errands. I usually pair it with slide sandals or sneakers for an easy, casual look.

Silk Skirt & Blazer

On those days when I don’t know what to wear to church, I throw this on. I love mixing textures, tweed, silk, cotton, just to give the outfit more dimension. A silk skirt with a slight flare paired with a fitted bodysuit creates such a flattering and modest silhouette.

Since my skirt was black, I added a little contrast with a black and white tweed jacket. This works beautifully with any color silk skirt because the bodysuit keeps everything grounded.

On cooler days, I’ll pair this with boots. On warmer days, I’ll switch to a sandal heel or even a loafer.

Cargo Pants

I love cargo pants because you can dress them up or down so easily. I didn’t always like cargos until I found the right pair, fitted, but still relaxed in the right places. Whether it’s cargo pants or even a cargo skirt, this look works the same.

Pairing them with a bodysuit gives you shape while still feeling comfortable and covered. I added a utility jacket with different colors and patterns to break up the black.

This is perfect for running errands with sneakers or a daytime outing with the girls with a heeled sandal.

Light Colored Trousers

These cream trousers I found at Zara years ago are still one of my favorites. They’re lightweight, wide leg, and so easy to style.

You can pair them with sandals, sneakers, or heels depending on the day. This look is perfect for a coffee run, errands, or even just lounging.

I like to throw a striped sweater over my shoulders as a third piece, it just elevates the outfit a little more.

There’s something about pairing black with creams, whites, or even chocolate tones that always feels so sophisticated.

I hope you found a few new ways to style pieces you already have in your closet. And if not, these are all simple staples you can add to your wardrobe to mix and match with basics like a black bodysuit.

This is the perfect time to stock up on those essentials that can create multiple looks. These are just five outfits, but honestly, the options are endless.

Investing in a good black bodysuit makes getting dressed so much easier, no matter where your day takes you. You can dress it up or down, and it always just works.
