Seven Basic Bodysuits Everyone Needs

dymond phillips • Sep 04, 2020
Let’s talk basics. I love taking basic pieces and dressing them up or down. My new obsession has become bodysuits. I used to shy away from them, because I don’t have the flattest stomach. I forced myself to wear one, and instantly I loved it. Since then, I’ve ordered so many bodysuits in different colors and styles. Bodysuits are so versatile. They can be worn anywhere depending on the style. With it being September, the weather is going to start changing soon. Bodysuits are perfect transitional pieces. They can go with you from season to season. Today, I'm going to show you seven basic bodysuit styles you need in your closet.  Keep in mind, bodysuits are sold almost everywhere. Depending on the quality of clothing you're interested in will determine the price you pay. Places like Fashionnova, J Lux Label, PrettyLittleThing, Express, and Nordstrom, always sell good bodysuits, year round. Bodysuits come in so many styles, today I'm just showing you seven basic ones.

  1. The Long Sleeve

This is the number one basic bodysuit. This is essential especially in the fall/winter. Long sleeve bodysuits come in so many styles, colors, and fabrics. Everybody needs a good scoop or v-neck long sleeve bodysuit. They can be worn with jeans, pants, joggers, skirts, etc. My favorite way to wear them are with mom jeans or oversized joggers. Long sleeve bodysuits are staples that you need in every color. My closet is full of neutrals. They can range from $10 on Asos, or $68 on Skims. The one I'm wearing above has fake buttons and is ribbed material. It's from Walmart and was $12.99.

2.The Tank Top

You may think tank bodysuits are only appropriate in the summer, but that isn't true. Tank bodysuits are perfect for layering. Remember in my previous post, "Four Ways To Casually Wear A White Blazer," three of those tops were tank top bodysuits. I also love pairing tank bodysuits with utility jackets. I love square neck tank top bodysuits over scoop neck, it adds a little extra oomph. At least add a black and white tank bodysuit to your closet this season. The one I'm wearing above is from Fashionnova.

3.The Sleeveless High Neck

I've said this before and I'll say it again, my shoulders are one of my favorite parts of my body. Wearing tops like this is so feminine and sleek. These style bodysuits are perfect for dressing up.When I wear these I feel sexy, without showing too much. High neck bodysuits are perfect to pair with a flowy paint or skirt. If the weather is starting to get chilly, throw on a Moto jacket to complete the look.  If you only get one of these, make sure it's in black! The one I'm wearing is from Nordstrom's Leith Collection, it's actually on sale too.

4.The Turtle Neck

This is my go to for the fall and winter season. You throw on a turtle/mock neck bodysuit and some pants or jeans and it's always a look. It's effortless, but when on, looks so put together. They make these in long and short sleeve. I prefer long sleeve with this style. This also looks really good under a belted trench coat. This staple is great to have in every color. Besides solids, I love wearing this style bodysuit in animal prints. The one I'm wearing above is from PrettyLittleThing.

5.The Deep Plunge

This style is definitely more grown and sexy. This can range from a deep deep plunge, to a modest plunge, depending on what your style and comfortability is. I love wearing styles like this for a girls night out. I pair them with leather pants, mini skirts and even shorts when I want to be edgy. Styles like this, pair perfectly with layered necklaces. Plunge bodysuits come in so many different fabrics, I love the the silk material style. It's super girly but still grown. The bodysuit I'm wearing above is from Bebe.

6.The Sleeveless Bandeau

I love a good tube top moment, but I hate pulling them up all day. I love this style bodysuit because, you get the same look, without all the work. The bandeau bodysuit is perfect for skirts, sweaters, jeans, and even long cardigans. Since it's sleeveless, it can be layered with anything and look amazing. I love this style in ribbed material, because it adds some texture which covers my gut. The one I'm wearing above, is from Forever 21.

7.The Long Sleeve Off The Shoulder

Another off the shoulder piece, but this time with sleeves. I love off the shoulder bodysuits, for my wide leg pants looks. I love how simple they are. By them having your shoulders out, it adds a extra element of femininity. Since the top is simple, I can style this with a distressed jean and killer heel. This look in the fall is so bomb, you won't even need to add a jacket. You can even dress up this style bodysuit, with a pencil skirt. The bodysuit I'm wearing above is from Nastygal.

I hope you enjoyed these seven bodysuits. Let me know below, which one is your favorite? Which one are you adding to your collection this season? Also, if I missed any style you like, tell me about it below. Have a great weekend!
