Be the Person Who Goes For It: How to Stop Watching and Start Doing
Stop Sitting On The Sidelines Of Your Own Life

I love social media and all the opportunities it brings, the inspiration, the connections, the access. It shows you what’s possible and gives you a glimpse into the lives of people doing what you want to do. The problem is, it can also trick you into believing you can watch your way to where they are. You’re only seeing a highlight reel, not the hours of unseen work behind it.
I get it, studying your craft matters. Watching, learning, and researching are key parts of growth. But too many of us get stuck there. I’ve been guilty of that too: signing up for classes, taking workshops, watching endless videos, but never fully applying what I’ve learned. You can’t study your way to success. Research is valuable, but knowledge without execution keeps you in the same place.
Visualizing and dreaming about the life you want is powerful, but it’s just the first step. I once saw a video that said, “Stop watching workouts online and start doing them.” It hit me because I used to believe that consuming motivational content meant I was moving forward. I’d spend hours watching people talk about success, but I wasn’t actually becoming successful. I still love watching those videos, but now I challenge myself to take action immediately after, because the longer I sit on an idea, the less likely I am to follow through.
I’m not saying you should stop scrolling or consuming altogether, inspiration and learning have their place. But you have to develop a producer mindset if you truly want to go after the things you desire in life. You can watch videos about how to live the life you want and stay a consumer, or you can produce the life you want by actually doing the work. Maybe that means consuming less, or maybe it just means knowing when it’s time to stop scrolling and start creating. Either way, balance is key, don’t let consumption become a substitute for creation.
You know the old saying: “Are you going to talk about it or be about it?” Well, which one are you? We spend so much time talking about our goals to friends or journaling about them, but never actually doing them. This season is about keeping your word to yourself. I’ve learned to fight overwhelm by breaking big goals down into smaller, manageable steps. I talked about this in my blog Locking In On What Truly Matters: Finding Focus For The Rest Of The Year, where I shared how overcommitting leads to inconsistency or worse, burnout.
One of the things I love most about living in Atlanta is being surrounded by young, successful people, some who I used to only see online. It reminds me that success isn’t far away; it’s possible. I even train with women I once watched on YouTube who now make six figures or more. I remember telling my trainer I wanted to get serious with my content, and she told me something I’ll never forget she said, “They aren’t better than you. The only difference is they decided to go for it.”
That’s stuck with me ever since. You can spend years watching people live the life you want, convincing yourself you’re “researching” when really, you’re just avoiding action. Or you can start creating your own version of that life today. Inspiration is meant to move you, not paralyze you.
Before you scroll through someone else’s story wishing it was yours, ask yourself: Am I putting in the work to create mine? Don’t over invest in watching other people’s lives and forget to live your own. Your future depends on what you do now, not what you watch, like, or save for later.
So be the person that goes for it. Start messy. Start scared. But just start. The clarity and perfection you’re looking for comes by doing
