Cut It Out

Dymond Phillips • Jul 10, 2018
Ladies and gentlemen this week I want to talk to you about something that's long overdue. Everybody nowadays is following their dreams which is amazing, BUT so many people up and quit their day job. Woah woah woah! First let me start by saying, your 9-5 is not a dream killer. When I say 9-5, I mean whatever job you have whether that is retail, food industry, office job, anything. So many people are quitting their jobs and "putting their all" into their dreams or new businesses. There's a few stories of people who've stepped out on faith with no money or plan who come out on top. THAT IS NOT THE CASE FOR EVERYBODY!

Your job is actually a dream builder. A wise woman once said, "It’s the only thing you have that can financially fund your dreams. Your own dreams can’t even fund your dreams! Stop whining, get resourceful, and watch things work." Perspective is everything. So many people get caught up in complaining about the job instead of leveraging it. Don't let the job use you, use it.

It's possible to have a day job and have a successful business. A are tons of business owners who do it. There's three things you actually need. The biggest challenge is having a balance. In order to have a balance you must have discipline. If you have no discipline you have NO BALANCE. Discipline does not look the same everyday. Some days you'll put more effort into your business and you'll lack in your 9-5, and vice versa. You have to push thru no matter how hard it is. One thing that may help is getting up early. I can't stand someone who complains about not being success or not having money but yet sleep until noon. How do you want to change your life but you won't even change the time you get up. If you have to work at 9am, you need to be up at 5am so that you have enough time to do the work for your dreams before getting ready for work.

I believe in properly maintaining your business/dreams with your 9-5. I'll never tell you to follow your dreams while compromising your day job. Secondly, you need decisiveness. You have to be able to decide whats getting done on which days. Write out a calendar with days and times to get tasks done. ESPECIALLY if you have a daytime job, and you're a student. YOU NEED TO PLAN THINGS OUT. You don't have that much time to just wing it. Wrong decisions do happen but if you're decisive you're getting things done in a timely manner.

The third thing you have to do is delegate. Starting off, you probably won't have a team of people to help you but you can use the people in your circle. Ask a friend to help you with tasks you can't get done. Ask a parent or even a cousin, anybody who you know is rooting for you to win will be willing to help you but you have to ask. You're not an island by yourself, you should allow the people in your life to help you get to the next step.

As you know I'm currently taking three online classes, working two jobs and running Dymonds Diary at the same time. These three steps have helped me continue to be successful while I'm busy. If I can do it, you can do it. Stop making your daytime job seem like such dream killler. If you don't make time for your dreams while you're busy, you won't make time for it when your schedule is completely empty. How bad do you want it? It's nothing wrong with quitting your job, but know it takes money to make money. I'm not saying work you 9-5 forever but have a plan and give yourself a deadline.
