Stay In Your Lane

Dymond Phillips • Jul 03, 2018
Have you ever been in traffic, switched lanes because the other lane was moving faster and the minute you merged over the new lane comes to a standstill while your original lane kept moving? Yeah, I hate when that happens. But we do it all the time. Because we’re impatient. Because we’re focused on where we could be instead of where we are. Because we’re so attached to speed instead of direction. (Admit it, you try to merge over to left lane when you know your exit is a mile away and to your right.) And I’m not just talking about driving. We approach life, school and business this way. And then we wonder why we’re burned out, why we haven’t gone far and why no one has taken us seriously.

I see so many business owners on social media who have all these products or services but yet haven’t mastered the first one. This can be applied to any business whether you sell T-shirt’s, lashes or hair master the first craft before adding more. For example, everybody knows I love Milano Di Rouge, it’s a clothing brand based out of Philadelphia PA. The creator of the brand is Milan and she has done a excellent job of staying in her lane. When she first started her clothing line five years ago, she only sold T-shirt’s, out of her trunk to be exact. She focused on mastering how to sell T-shirt’s before expanding her line to all clothes. That is so crucial to success. If you can’t manage $200 why would you be able to manage $2,000.

It’s nothing wrong with wanting to expand and have more but you have to excel in what you have now. If your sales and consistency aren’t the best they can be maybe you should hold off for a minute on adding more. I’m always studying and researching how to be better and more consistent. Staying in your lane doesn’t mean only do one thing or even staying one way. Staying in your line means staying in what moves you. Become the expert in what it is that you do then expand. Stay present in your gift. Stay the course. Stay in your purpose. Become the best at the first thing first before you try to conquer another!
