Final Grades

dymond phillips • Jul 04, 2017
Alright guys, lets get down to the nitty gritty. Lets talk about that thing that some people hate to bring up. Lets talk about final grades. I’ve been out of school for over a month now, but wanted to wait to write about this topic. Why wait, you ask? Because some of my readers might not be in college like me, I actually have quite a few high school viewers too. But this post isn’t just for students because, I also have older readers who have kids in school. I’ll start with the parents. Acknowledge the good that your child has done this year even if it wasn't their best. If they didn't meet your expectations ask them why, you never know what the reason behind it is. If your child is a elementary/middle and even a high school student, get involved. If you see them slipping talk to teachers, get them help, make time to check homework. At that age, it's on you to make sure your child succeeds. BUT if your son/daughter is in college or upper classmen in high school, it's no longer on you. At that point, your child needs self-determination. Parents, once your kid is older, it's good to continue to reward good grades but when bad grades come you have to handle it differently. You can no longer whoop them or ground them, once your child is older, you have to actually find the root of the problem. You cant hold your kids hand thru college, or senior year of high school. You can help them in other ways. Everybody has bumps in the road and misses the mark sometimes, don't beat them up about it. On to us students, We just completed another long year of school so I completely understand if you need a break to just relax kick back and do nothing. That “do nothing” period lasted less than a week for me because I work two jobs and I’m building a brand. But take as long as you need, different people use the summer for different things. BACK TO SCHOOL, I don’t know how your school is but mine has two semesters (Fall/Spring) That’s about 32 weeks of being in classes and studying it’s A LOT! There are many differences between high school and college. College should change you in some ways. It should help shape you for the person you’ll become. In college nobody is holding your hand, nobody is going to ask you studied or not. Being on your own can be good or even bad. Couple good things about being on your own is the independence. But there are a lot of responsibilities that come with this independence.

PROCRASTINATION is the DEVIL!!!!! Well, for me at least. Try not to get behind it’s so hard to play catch up STAY AHEAD! For me, this was my my worst semester of college the far. I maintained good grades throughout my life, like everybody, yes I had bad times but they weren't that bad. This past semester my grades were like a rollercoaster. I started off pretty good, excited for a new year, I loved my new place and I was excited to see what this year had in store for me. I had just came back from Cancun, and was very excited. Little did I know, I had just started an emotional rollercoaster. I went thru one of the hardest things this past semester but we will get into that later this month. Besides that, I was in a relationship, working and just between a rock and a hard place. Do you ever feel like you're not where you need to be? Like the world around you is going the speed of lightning and you're being left behind? That was me, I was so focused on my peers and where “society” says I should be by my age where I got caught up and didn't “respect the process.” Mentally I wasn't at CAU last year because my head was everywhere I wasn’t. I began to beat myself down for things that I couldn't change overnight. By time, I got back into it it was to late. It's harder to pull up grades! TRUST ME. Even if you have a GPA it will dwindle fast if you have two bad semesters. I'm not a average student, C's aren't acceptable I barely like B's, so getting a 2.8, 3.0 or even 3.2 was never something I was excited for. I aim for the top success is something I push for. I'm not going to let this one bad year determine my future, i can sit and beat myself up about it or I can make changes for the future.

Here are some things I'm going to change going into this year of college, you can't put in the same work you'll get the same outcome. Main thing is shift your focus, by me shifting my focus from all that I haven't yet accomplished to all the things God has blessed me thru I will be happier with where I am. Shift your circle, you are who you hang around. If you hang around people who are ok with being average, you'll be average. If you're the smartest, richest, or doing the best in your group, you need to change that group of friends. The people around you, should motivate you and force you to be the best you can be. AND, if you're like me, and you feel like you're ok with a couple friends and don't need a bunch of people around you, OPEN YOUR MIND! Nothings wrong with having a good strong group of even 3 people who uplift you. I'm not saying, go out and find(force) friendships NO. I'm saying, be open to the idea that it is ok to have multiple friendships, open up. You never know you can help the next person. Having friends will help you stay on track, if they are the right ones and have dreams and goals like you. TRUST THE PROCESS.

Everything God has for you will always be for you, but it isn't until God's timing. Get involved, students who are involved tend to have better grades because not only do they have to, they're surrounded by students who have good grades. DO NOT PROCRASTINATE. This is something I need to really work on. Dymonds Diary is helping me actually do things in advance because I have deadlines. My brand isn't only to help others, but the reality is I'm helping myself become better. I believe that if I change these aspects of my life, my college career will get on track and I'll get that 4.0 GPA that I know I can. Together we can both better our future, I'm just like you. Failure is not a option and we will reach our goals. Whether this was one of your best semesters or one of your worst, you have gotten this far, don't give up. Fall 2017 will be what you make it! But always remember FAITH WITHOUT WORK IS DEATH!!! There's a greater reward at the end.
