Great Start To Any Day

dymond Phillips • Sep 18, 2017
Well we are a month in, I am at least, of school. How do you feel? Think the fast helped? Are you overwhelmed? All of these questions I have for you all because I care. We are close to midterms, well few weeks away, and I want you to be able to switch some things around in order to reach success. If you started off rocky now is the time to change that. I’m going to give you some of my personal morning tips that shape the tone of my day. Yes school is a lot of work, but if you balance yourself you won’t feel overwhelming. There’s so many people who believe just by saying I want 4.0 that they will get it. But that is not the case. You have to do the work. Relax, you’ve got this.

Like some of you already know, I approached this semester differently. I was in a fresh mind set and added these tips into my morning schedule and it’s been working for me thus far. My first tip is start your morning with a positive attitude. Leave whatever happened the day before in the past. I don’t understand why people seem to carry over the last days issues or anger with them. Look at everyday like a fresh start with new opportunities. You should wake up everyday and say a prayer no matter what religious background you have. This helps prepare your mind for the day. Along with this, I start my day with positive music normally gospel or motivational speakers. When you start your day with a positive attitude it sets the tone for how the rest of your day will be. Any of my friends will tell you, I’m the positive friend. It's something about being happy that there's a new day for new opportunities that just gets me going.

My second tip is start everyday with a to do list. Having a to do list is having a plan for the day. If you fail to plan you plan to fail. For me, it keeps me on track. I have so many things going thru my head throughout the day, so by me writing down a list I won’t forget anything. I try to finish everything on the to do list no matter how long it takes me. Last weekend, I neglected my to do list and made up stupid excuses. It took a conversation I had with my mom to snap me out of it. Everybody falls off but it takes the strong to bounce back better. One thing my mom said was, “You don’t have to finish the entire list as long as you knock off somethings.” Even my mommy makes a to do list. When I finish things on my to do list, it gives me a feeling of accomplishment. I literally write everything that comes to mind on the list. I even like to add a quote at the top, it’s like my daily quote that I apply to my life that day. Try writing a to do list and checking the things you do off and watch how it makes you feel at the end of the day.

My last tip that you should add to your morning “getting ready for the day” schedule is to motivate yourself. I know you're reading this like what is she talking about. The last thing I do before I start my day is I give myself some encouragement. I do this in the mirror in the shower or even in my car. When I say encourage myself I mean I speak positivity into my day. I say things like “You’re beautiful, you’re smart, all things are coming together, you got this, today will be a great day, you’ll be a light onto the world today, you’re working hard but work a little harder, etc.” Some people believe that when people do that, that they don’t have self confidence but it’s the complete opposite. It’s like having a reminder. Self motivation is very important because at the end of the day you should want better for you. If you have nobody to push you, it’s good to push yourself!

By starting my morning with these tips it leads me to have a better day. That doesn’t mean my day is perfect, but I’ve prepared myself so that whatever comes my way I’m ready to handle it. I can honestly tell the difference in my day when I follow my tips and when I don’t. Now, I’m passing along my tips to you so that you can better any situation that comes your way. I promise if you include these tips into your morning schedule you’ll see a difference in your day which will lead to a better week which will lead to a better school year but will ultimately turn to a better life!
