Mistakes Happen, It's Life

So this week I want to talk to you about mistakes. Everybody makes mistakes, it's life. Here's the reality, some mistakes we make are smaller than others. Here's the tricky thing about mistakes, they only happen once. You can never make the same mistake twice, the second time you make it, it's no longer a mistake it's a choice. In life you can't dwell on mess-ups you have to think about what's next. Mistakes happen but it's how you deal with the mistake that matters. When one occurs, it is crucial that lessons are learned from it, and these lessons are implemented to prevent future errors. Mistakes can also be useful in showing where parts of the process is going wrong and needs to be corrected.
A few weeks ago my pastor said, "The fear of being nothing, achieving nothing and becoming nothing should be way bigger than the fear of making mistakes." I interpreted this as, don't let the fear of making a mistake cause you not to try in the first place. Mistakes aren't all bad. Start to shift your thinking on mistakes and watch your life begin to shift.

Mistakes help you discover who you truly are. With every mistake that we make we discover more and more about ourselves, about who we are, about our limits, about our capabilities, about what we can and cannot do. On top of that, mistakes teach you valuable life lessons. There is so much we can learn from our mistakes, and the moment we see them as lessons rather than mistakes, we will no longer have this fear of making them along this journey of life.
Did you know that mistakes teach you how to forgive? One of the greatest lesson you will learn from making mistakes is forgiveness. With every mistake that you make, you will learn how important it is to forgive yourself and many of the people around you. You will understand that you are not perfect and that perfection doesn’t really exist. Lastly, let's be real, mistakes help you grow as a person. You can't expect to learn new things and have all this progress without making a mistake or two.

We all make mistakes, you have to forgive yourself because that's the only way you can move forward. Now I know it's hard to forgive somebody after they've made mistakes that impacted you. But is anybody perfect? NO! You have to forgive that person not just for them but for you. I'm not saying forgive and forget. Nor am I saying forgive and keep the friendship or whatever it was. It's nothing wrong with forgiving and moving on with your life, just don't hold on to it because it'll be baggage.
That's all I have to say on mistakes and forgiveness today. If you've recently made a mistake, whether big or small, don't beat yourself up about it. Figure out ways to fix whatever it is so the same one doesn't happen in the future.
