The Year Of Completion & Fruitfulness

The summer is ending. Nights and mornings are getting breezier, and fall is quietly creeping in. Stores have already put out their fall decor, and Starbucks has unveiled their pumpkin flavors. Kids are back in school; college, high school, or even elementary. Depending on where you are in the world, it might already feel like fall. Some people believe Labor Day marks the end of summer, but according to the calendar, we still have until the 22nd. With all that said, it’s my favorite time of the year: time for our End of Summer Fast and Detox.

Eight years ago, a few months after starting this blog while I was still in college, I began an end of summer fast and detox called Fasting for 4.0s. Now, even though I’m out of school, it’s a ritual I’ve continued each year. There’s something about the changing seasons that draws me closer to my Creator. I know it’s September, and we only have three months left in 2025, but I truly feel like there’s still so much in store.

Fall represents change, transition, and letting go; what better time than now to draw near to God? I don’t know about you, but I believe God is going to do some miraculous things as we close out this year. I don’t want to miss or fumble those blessings because I wasn’t connected. Have you ever received something you weren’t ready for? It’s tough. And let’s be honest, summer is full of distractions. Fun isn’t bad, but sometimes it can pull us away from God.

This is our ninth End of Summer Fast and Detox. In the Bible, the number nine represents completion and fruitfulness. The old season is complete, and it’s time to step into a new era. There are nine fruits of the Spirit, and you can’t fully become the person God called you to be without cultivating these fruits in your life. Living by the fruits of the Spirit brings peace, something so essential in a chaotic world. This is a time for breakthrough; from repetitive cycles, past traumas, shame, doubt, whatever has held you back, it’s time to break free.

Lately, I feel God nudging me to go deeper. We get excited about what’s coming, but that often means letting go of what’s behind us. Connecting with God gives the courage to release. As we enter this new season, you may need to release something, not just a habit or distraction, but a season of your life. Whether you’re on top of the mountain or in the valley, it’s the perfect time to fast. If you feel far from God, fasting is a way to refocus, because He hasn’t moved, you have. The key is seeking God first in every area of your life: your career, dreams, routines, habits, relationships, and will. Surrender it all and seek His face.

There are blessings that only come through fasting. Maybe you need clarity, guidance, or a breakthrough. Maybe your mind feels foggy from the world around you. Fasting quiets the noise so you can hear from your Creator. And if you’re guilty, like me, of ever running to family or even ChatGPT in times of decision-making, consider running to God instead. Maybe you’re facing a big decision, seeking healing for yourself or a loved one, or even feeling disappointed with God, this is the perfect time to draw closer to Him.

Fasting isn’t just about abstaining from food, it’s about removing what distracts you from intimacy with God. There are many types of fasts: water-only, Daniel Fast, or personal fasts from things that take up your time, focus, and energy. For this fast, I challenge you to choose five things to lay down for three days. These should be the biggest distractions in your life; what’s capturing your attention right now? Ask God to reveal them, then place them at the altar so you can focus fully on Him. Only you know the things that have your attention. Don’t cheat yourself or God. Personally, I’ll be giving up social media, unless for business, TV, secular music, eating from sun up to sun down, and alcohol.

I also understand that not everyone shares my faith, which is why we incorporate a detox as well. We’ll detox our minds, bodies, and spirits. Summer is a time of indulgence, and it’s easy to intake toxic habits, behaviors, and foods. Detoxing resets your mind and body, helping you align with your goals. Maybe you’ve heard of the “Great Lock-In” trend on TikTok; people are hyper focusing on goals from September to December to set themselves up for a successful new year. Our detox does the same: we remove distractions, sit with ourselves and our thoughts, and jumpstart discipline, which is essential for growth.

It’s hard to focus when you’re unclear about where you are or where you’re going. Whether you’re “locking in” for the rest of the year or not, now is the perfect time to pause and reset. Without a detox, it’s easy to drift into the new season stagnant. This fast is also about self discovery, removing distractions so you can face what’s really shaping your life. Think of three habits or indulgences that aren’t serving you, (be honest with yourself,) maybe it’s liquor, hookah, smoking, oversleeping, or even negative thinking. For three days, commit to setting them aside and, instead, replace that time with one new life giving habit: walking, working out, journaling, reading, or even changing what you watch.

Starting tomorrow Friday at noon, until Monday at noon, we will take a mental and spiritual pause. Each day, I’ll send a scripture, activity journal prompt, and prayer. Whether you’re spiritual or not, I encourage you to join this special time. You can’t enter the fall expecting change if you aren’t willing to do something different. This fast and detox is sacred to me because every year, God shows up in ways that blow my mind.

Make sure you’re subscribed to the blog (link below) so you don’t miss a day, starting Friday, September 19th through Monday, September 22nd. This fast will be challenging, but if you commit, it can transform your next season.
