What It Really Looks Like To Stewart The Body God Gave You

“Your body is your temple.” How many times have you heard that? If you grew up in my house, the answer would be thousands.

It wasn’t until I got older that I truly understood what that meant.

We were gifted one body by God. This is the body you’ll have from the moment you enter this earth until the day you leave it. That alone should shift your perspective. The body is such an intricate, intentional creation, every function, every system, every detail designed with purpose.

And how we care for it shows.

The quality of your life, reflects how you treat your body.

Think of your body as a gift from God. Imagine giving your child something special and watching them misuse it. My mom used to tell me I didn’t take care of the things she bought me because it wasn’t my money. Now that I buy my own clothes? I take care of them, because I understand what it cost.

Jesus died a painful, brutal death for you to be breathing in the body you have right now. What do you think He feels when we constantly neglect the temple He entrusted to us?

That conviction has been sitting with me.

Lately, I’ve been intentional about being a good steward over everything God has placed in my hands. And that includes my body, how I move it, what I put in it, what I put on it, and what I allow into it.

One day last week I was supposed to go to the gym. I woke up and didn’t feel like it, so I didn’t go. Later that day, I felt that quiet conviction: stewardship includes your physical body too.

If you know me, you know I don’t have the best eating habits. Honoring my body doesn’t mean never snacking again. It means being mindful. It means trying to build balanced meals. It means paying attention to how food affects my energy, my skin, and my mood.

Because let’s be honest, what we eat shows up.

Movement is part of beauty too.

Everybody’s fitness level is different, but we should be moving our bodies daily. Whether it’s lifting weights, walking your neighborhood, doing a YouTube workout, taking the stairs, or riding a bike, daily movement is essential.

Movement:

-Improves circulation (hello glow)

-Regulates your mood

-Reduces stress (which affects your skin more than you think)

-Supports focus and mental clarity

Beauty isn’t just topical. It’s internal first. Be mindful of what you put into your body.

I started taking vitamins in the morning. If pills aren’t your thing, there are plenty of gummy options. Honoring your body doesn’t mean suddenly going vegan or eating only salads. It means paying attention to how your body responds.

For example, if dairy upsets your stomach every time you drink it, that’s information. There are so many alternatives now. Learn your body.

And then there’s what we put on our bodies.

I’m nowhere near a “natural, organic girly,” but I have started paying attention to ingredients in my products. I switched my shampoo and conditioner to cleaner, cruelty free formulas. I replaced certain lotions with shea butter because it actually hydrates my melanated skin in a way that works for me.

Your skincare.

Your haircare.

Your hygiene.

All of it is part of honoring the temple.

And beauty goes beyond products.

It includes what you watch. What you listen to. The environments you place yourself in.

Stress, negativity, chaos, it shows up on your face. It shows up in your posture. It shows up in your energy. Protect your eye gates. Protect your ears. Protect your peace.

Be mindful of who you’re around. Your presence is a present. Some people will drain the light out of you if you let them, and that affects you physically more than you realize.

Ask God to give you eyes to see your body as a temple.

Pause today and check in:

-Do you need rest?

-Do you need water?

-Does your skin need hydration?

-Do you need movement?

-Do you need quiet?

You can’t care for your beauty properly if you don’t know your body. Honoring your body is self-care. It’s stewardship. It’s faith in action. And God willing, it’s how you live longer and glow differently. Your body isn’t yours, it’s borrowed. Take good care of the gift.
