Unleash Your Inner Unicorn

Make Your Life Sparkle

Every year, Dior and I match, for Halloween. This year, it was so hard finding the perfect costume. Last year, we were bumblebees. This year, I wanted to be something meaningful, rather than just cute. As I was brainstorming different ideas for costumes, a lightbulb went off. Why not be a unicorn. In a world full of horses, stand out and embrace your inner unicorn. It can be very hard being different, but once you step into that differentness your world will shift.

My whole life, my mom always told me I can’t do certain things, because I’m different. As a child, that used to get on my nerves. As an adult, looking back on all situations, I see how it remains true. I was never a follower, but I used to want to be "cool" and do what my friends could do. Whenever I would try to sneak and do things, I would always get caught. My consequences for things always seemed worse than my friends. Looking back, it was Gods way of protecting me. Not only was I different in that way, I was always a unique kid. I'm blessed that my family always embraced my uniqueness and celebrated it. In my life, I've had many ideas and dreams that seemed weird or different, but they've always worked out. I trust myself and my abilities, even when others don't see the vision.

If you have an idea, sometimes it's best to listen to your own mind. That doesn't mean you can't take advice from others, but follow your own instincts. If you listen to other people’s advice and do only what other people want you to do, you’ll never be happy with life. To be honest, most of the time, the crowd is wrong. People tend to project their fears onto you, if you let them. Sometimes, even our parents, can try to push their dreams and goals onto us. You can’t allow anyone to stop you from following your dreams. We are so affected by our environment, and what’s around us, sometimes you need to silence everything. Determine what it is that you want for you. Not what Instagram wants, not what you saw the girl you like wants, not what your mom wants, but what is it that you want. Discovering your own wants and needs comes when you’re alone and not on your phone.

You need to find your own path and focus on it, focus on what you do best. You are the author of your life. You write the story. If you don't like the narrative, change it. If you have a business, stop trying to run it like the next person, and run it like you. Yes you can be inspired by others, but ultimately you should be inspired by yourself. Stop trying to run your life the same way you see your favorites running theirs. Their success story is their own, and everybody is different. It’s so many routes to success, you can’t limit yourself to the one route you see. Pave your own lane. You have to be yourself. In a world full of horses and copycats, be a unicorn. Never let someone dim your light. Stop following the crowd and walk to the beat of your own drum. You've got this!
