Travel With Me On Our Family Vacation

Two weeks ago, my family and I went on our annual summer vacation. This year my mom put together the most amazing experience ever. We went to Cartagena, Columbia. At first, my mom was the only one excited, but as it got closer my Nana, dad, brother, and I all got on board. They were there two days longer than me, because your girl had to work. I would say three days was enough time to be there, but I could have stayed more. When we were looking for flights, we saw that it was cheaper to fly from Detroit to Fort Lauderdale then from Fort Lauderdale to Cartagena. Luckily, I have friends there so I was able to spend the night connecting with them. I was even able to get my nails done by the best nail tech ever! As far as details for Colombia: We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Cartagena and had the best tour guide, Carlos.

I flew into Cartagena, Saturday at noon, and we hit the ground running. After, I checked in and met up with my family, we went to explore the Walled City (Clocktower) area and did some shopping, which was my favorite part. The shopping in Columbia was immaculate! I found some really cute pieces that were dressy, and even some nice loungewear. The part that I loved about shopping, was that it was very inexpensive, yet the quality was perfection. Honestly, I would go back to Columbia, just to shop. Our hotel was even right next to the mall. After we shopped, I went back to the hotel and sat at the rooftop bar next to the pool, the views were everything. I ended up getting some finger foods, which were ok. For my dads birthday dinner we went to Restaurante Candé. The food was good, my favorite part was the ambiance. After dinner, my dad, brother and I went out for a night out. We went to two clubs, both recommended by our tour guide, Delirium and Imperio. We had a section with bottles at both and it was lit.

Sunday we woke up early and headed out to do some quick shopping, before our excursion. We took a private boat tour around to the Caribbean Sea. We saw the different islands, the old Pablo Escobar houses, and ended our day at Cholón. Which was an outdoor bar/restaurant in the middle of the water with hookah, drinks, food and more. It was a nice experience, but honestly overpriced. If we had to do it all over again, we’d do Bora Bora, which is like a beach club. The boat tour lasted all day, literally eight hours. After the boat, we chilled at the hotel. Later that night, I explored the next door mall, food court. It rained this day and it was so interesting to see all the streets flooded with so much water.

Monday, we started even earlier than Sunday, because we had a mid day flight and had to explore more of the island. We took a taxi to Getsemani. I just had to see the famous umbrella streets. One of my favorite things about Cartagena was the architecture and artwork. The buildings had such beautiful paintings and I loved the bright colors. The island was so lively and vibrant, with people who were super friendly. After we walked the streets for a few hours, we headed back to the hotel. I had a meeting for work and when it was over we went straight to the airport. Coming back, we did the same flights as going so we had a day to spend in Florida. We shopped at the outlet, and had dinner together. I ended my night by meeting up with my friends and hanging out all night. Tuesday we shopped at the outlet and headed back home.

Overall, the trip was amazing. I’m so happy we came together and spent this time. Life is truly about making memories. We take about three or four trips together a year as a family, but we like to do a big one every summer. I hope you enjoy watching this video, I tried to capture as much as I could while still being present in the moment. I think everyone should visit Colombia, I’ll definitely be going back. I would even love to explore Medellin Colombia too! I felt super safe while I was there as well.
