How To Set Goals You’ll Actually Achieve In 2022

dymond phillips • Feb 16, 2022

Wow, I feel like just yesterday, we were all saying Happy New Year. Crazy that we are already halfway thru February. I pray your year off to a prosperous and intentional start. Every New Year, millions of people around the world set resolutions that they promise to themselves, they’ll complete in the new year. According to the New York Post, “A new poll of 2,000 Americans, found that it takes just 32 days for the average person to finally break their resolution(s) but 68% report giving up their resolutions even sooner than that.” With these statistics, by February 1st, many Americans have already abandoned all their resolutions. Isn’t that number wild? 2022 is a year of growth and evolution. It’s time to get rid of resolutions and instead create goals and action plans to help you achieve them.

Setting goals for the New Year doesn’t have to happen on the first. It can happen any time. Goals give us a roadmap to follow, while resolutions are just ideas. “Resolution: a firm decision to do or not to do something. Goal: the object of a person's ambition or effort; an aim or desired result. ... Goals provide a direction to follow to achieve desired outcome. Goals involve intention setting, planning, preparing, and taking REALISTIC action.” Now you tell me, which one you’d rather come up with, a goal or a resolution? We are already 47 days into the new year, if you've broken your resolutions, that's ok. It's time to set goals, that you can actually achieve. The great thing about goals is that they can be broken up into long and short term. They can actually be broken down shorter, into quarterly, monthly, and even daily. I like to first look at what I want to achieve in the year. Knowing where I want to be in 365 days, helps me goal set for the next 31 days. That way I know what each days purpose is. Ultimately, that’ll help me be more intentional with what I’m doing every single day. Take some time to write some goals in that way; Yearly, quarterly, monthly and daily. I also like to separate them into personal goals and business goals.

Next, after you set the goals, it’s time to create a action plan on how to make these things happen. Ask yourself, what are the systems I’m going to put in place to make this a reality? Another good question to ask yourself is, what habits do I need to create or get rid of to achieve this? Understanding why you want to achieve this goal is also going to help you stick to the habits attached to it. Think of daily habits that you will do, in order to achieve the long and short term goals. Each goal you have in place needs to have this attached. It can be tedious to do, but it makes a difference. Writing a action plan helps the dream become a reality. It helps the goal not look too hard to reach. Setting goals helps me stay on track. It’s so easy to get distracted. Sometimes, things happen and slow me down from my goals. When life happens, adjust the action plan, don’t change the goal!

It's only February, but this year is going to fly by. Don't let 2022 goals fade to the background. Before you know it, it'll be summer and then Christmas. Look at the life you want to live and the person you want to be, and start writing down your goals. Writing down goals and action plans help you stay accountable. You don’t just wake up and become the person of your dreams, you must actively work towards it every day. The only way this year will be different, is if you do things differently. Doing the same things will keep you right where you are. Take some time to goal set. Make sure your goals are visible to you. I look at mine daily to keep me on track. Don't lose sight.
