My Personal Revolution

Sep 25, 2017
This is my personal revolution.
This is it.
The reclaiming of my energy and the collection of my time which has been put to waste in
attempts to feed an egoistic soul incapable of appreciating the true embodiment of a woman.
Starting with me and ending with you.
This is my personal revolution
Strapping up my boots and taking back my power
Pouring out the remains of a toxic solution.
Being too much of a woman can make him feel less of a man.
So I am now saving myself in the cape that unfortunately I couldn't save you in.
A revolution.

Now look.. the revolution continues
As I center my crown and admire the radiance of own my skin
You know, that good brown skin that the Kardashians have longed to be in.
This is a revolution
Realizing I have the strength of many moons and the melanated glow of the sun.
I stand with grace as America’s true black statue of liberty.
I’m singing my revolution
I am Angela Davis, I am Assata Shakur, I am Sandra Bland, I am unapologetic
I can no longer be swayed upon ridicule .
A symbol of strength in the essence of beauty
So in love with myself
For I am the black woman and wish to be nothing else.
Now that's a revolution

But the revolution is not over
In losing myself I found God
This is a revolution
This is a testimony.
With love that reveals eternity and an abundance of mercy
I shout my revolution.
Lost in the toxins of a misconstrued idea of love
Forgetful of the power that lies beneath my brown skin
A true love was revealed
Never ending.

This is a testimony.
This is a revolution.
And this revolution may not be televised.
