Do you ever meet people and instantly click? That was me with my friend Ja’hnysha. If you’ve been around for a while, then you probably remember when I interviewed her during my pandemic girl boss series. Click Here to watch. Since then, we finally met in person a few years back, and have genuinely been friends ever since. Anytime I’m in Detroit, I always make time to see her. She’s even came to stay with me in Atlanta.

Back in September, I was visiting and she introduced me to one of her newer friends, Victoria, who also works in the fashion and beauty space. She was so sweet, and we instantly clicked too. The two of them later created their styling agency, J. Blair x VP&Co Styling Agency, and it’s been so beautiful watching their ideas come to life.

A couple months ago, they came down to Atlanta to visit, and while they were here they came up with the idea to host a Devil Wears Prada 2 premiere event in Detroit when the movie came out.

Fast forward to now, and I knew I had to be there. The timing was actually crazy because I was traveling to London with my mom around the same time, but I made plans to fly into Detroit early just so I could attend their premiere. Honestly, this ties perfectly into Monday’s post about showing up for your friends no matter how big or small the moment may seem. I knew I had to support them because this was their first event as an agency, and I got to witness the entire thing go from an idea spoken out loud while ice skating in Atlanta, to a real life event.

The event itself was beautifully curated. I flew in that afternoon, so I was running late, but somehow still right on time. The premiere was hosted at Emagine Palladium, and the vibes were already vibing the second I walked in. One of the employees greeted me immediately and pointed me toward Theater 8. I guess the outfit gave it away that I was there for the event.

As soon as I made it up the escalator, I saw the most perfect setup. There was a red carpet backdrop, themed signage outside the theater, and everything was organized so well that you couldn’t get lost.

The second I walked inside the theater, my breath was honestly taken away. They had swag bags and reserved seating signs that perfectly matched the theme. Even the popcorn boxes, cups, and cupcakes were customized. The cupcakes were stunning and had little fashion inspired details on top like heels, handbags, and their logos. Every detail of the private room felt intentional and elevated.

And when I tell you people came dressed to the nines… I mean it. Everywhere you looked, everyone had their own unique style, but every look made sense for the theme. The dress code was red carpet, Devil Wears Prada inspired, and people truly showed up. There was tulle, pinstripes, dramatic silhouettes, bold reds, and statement looks everywhere. Some of my favorite looks of the night belonged to the hosts themselves. Victoria wore a custom green silk skirt that she literally made that morning and paired it with a printed boot that made the outfit pop even more. Jahnysha wore an all red look featuring the cutest sequined maxi skirt.

Being surrounded by creative, fashion minded people felt refreshing. Between the laughs, conversations, compliments, and networking moments, it honestly gave me the creative energy I didn’t realize I needed. The night started with a mix and mingle while guests slowly arrived. Everyone had time to grab drinks and snacks before the movie started, besides the popcorn that was already provided.

Before the movie, they premiered an announcement video teasing something exciting the agency is planning to release in November, which made the night feel even more special because you could tell this is only the beginning for them.

Then it was finally time for the main event: The Devil Wears Prada 2.

I was honestly excited but nervous because the original movie has always been such a staple for me. I’ve loved fashion for as long as I can remember. At one point, I wanted to become a fashion designer, but the one small problem was, I couldn’t draw. So instead, I started researching other careers within the fashion industry and stumbled across fashion journalism. That’s actually why I chose fashion as my major in college with a minor in journalism.

So much of the world in The Devil Wears Prada has always inspired me. Not necessarily the exact magazine life, but the fashion shows, the fittings, the storytelling, the writing, the creativity behind it all. Watching it feels like seeing pieces of the dream life I imagined for myself growing up.

And thankfully, the movie did not disappoint. Sometimes when movies come back for a second installment after becoming iconic, they don’t always live up to the hype, but this one absolutely did. I loved seeing the original cast return, I loved how the storylines evolved, and visually the cinematography was incredible. Overall, it was easily a 10/10 for me.

After the movie ended, Victoria and Ja’hnysha thanked everyone for coming, offered more sweet treats, and we all headed over to the red carpet area to take photos. Looking around, I kept thinking about how beautifully everything was tied together, the flowers, the branding, the swag bags, the popcorn boxes, every little detail mattered.

I’m genuinely excited to see what’s next for J. Blair x VP&Co Styling Agency, and for what both the designers have in store for the future, because this truly felt like the first of many events for them. Attending this premiere reminded me that dreams really can become reality, no matter how small they may start. While they were in Atlanta months ago, we were literally ice skating while casually talking about this event as just an idea. To now see it fully come to life felt surreal.

That’s the beautiful thing about vision. Sometimes the life you want starts as a random conversation, a small idea, or a dream you speak out loud before you even fully know how it’ll happen. But when you keep believing in it, working toward it, and surrounding yourself with people who pour into those dreams too, eventually you look up and realize you’re living inside something you once only imagined.

We all have the opportunity to design a life we love. It starts with having vision, speaking life into what you want, and allowing yourself to dream beyond your current reality. The moment you stop limiting your imagination is usually the moment everything begins to change.
