You Have To Kill The Noise

Dymond Phillips • May 01, 2018
As all of you should know Thursday, April 12th was the return of Nicki Minaj. Back in 2017 she went completely missing from all social media, including Twitter and Instagram. Paparazzi couldn't even find her during this time to snap pictures. The last time we heard her rap was as a feature on Plain Jane with A$AP Ferg back in December. Nicki didn't make any announcements that she was going MIA she just did it. Of course the tabloids had so many "stories" on why she went missing. Yet, none were true.
Back in march she posted her newest partnership with Mercedes Benz where she was featured in the short commercial. Then we saw her by the paparazzi at LAX on April 3rd. They spotted her again out in Paris. On April 10th, she came back to Instagram with two pictures for her new singles that she dropped on the 10th. Now these were shocking to everyone. That gave her two days to promote songs, most artist promote singles at least two weeks out. After she returned to Instagram she began tweeting again on Twitter. She decided to go out in public again by stopping by the Lakers game while she was in LA.
People were so excited for Nicki Minaj to return that the hashtag #NickiDay was trending all day on the 12th. On top of dropping the singles she did a radio interview with Beats 1 on iTunes. When asked why she decided to walk away from social media and kill the noise, she responded by saying, "I needed to focus on my album, and I wanted to make sure I was writing what was meaningful to me and my audience, but most importantly I wanted to have fun again. I didn't want to see anything I wasn't only not posting I took all forms of social media off my phone. It was the most genius decision I ever made because it gave me peace, and it put my focus back on what it needed to be on which is the music." Not only did she deactivate all her social medias, she changed her number and gave out her new number to people as needed. That got me thinking.

Do you ever need to detach yourself completely to get back focused? Sometimes it’s needed to get us back on track. I love social media but it’s easy to become a distraction. It’s easy to get so caught up in looking everybody else life you doubt yourself and think why couldn’t it be me. First I want to say it’s social media, people show the best forms of themselves, you don’t know how they are in real life, don’t get so caught in that. Another thing is what’s for you is going to always be for you no matter what. Nobody can take it. Stay in your lane. Social media can sometimes make you feel like your not doing things right but don’t let that get to you it. Some people get so wrapped in social media that they don’t enjoy the moment. If you feel yourself becoming too dependent and attached to social media cut all ties with it for a while. Hit the refresh button on your life and watch how much it helps. You become less worried about what others think and more focused on what it is you truly want.

Here’s my challenge to you, try cutting all social media for a day. Doesn’t have to just be social media, cut all the noise go a day without your phone. If you can go a day try a week. Take as much time you need to get refocused. I will be cutting all the noise during finals week just to stay on track, I sometimes find myself having a short attention span when it comes to staying on track. Watch how killing all the noise will make you happier and accomplish more in life. Don’t get caught into the social media world!
